As many people are turning towards affiliate marketing to earn a passive income, there is a common debate as to which affiliate program is the best. With such a variety of options as to which program you may become an affiliate marketer with, it is quite common that bloggers will choose multiple platforms to work with. The two platforms that have consistently dominated the affiliate marketing world are Amazon and ClickBank. While both affiliate programs work towards a common purpose, there are most definitely differences between the two that one should consider when choosing which platform to use.
The first difference between the two programs is in regard to the commission, a topic that is of the utmost importance to affiliate marketers. For Amazon’s affiliate program, its payment is based on a fee structure that depends on which product is sold. In other words, an affiliate marketer’s commission is based on the category that a product is purchased within. On the other hand, ClickBank’s payment works in a way in which all their products have a variety of commission structures. While the vendors can choose between 1-75% commission on their product, affiliate marketers can usually expect compensation of 30-50%.
Another difference between ClickBank and Amazon is in regard to the scheduling of the payments. ClickBank is usually the preferred platform for affiliates in regards to their payment schedules, with their weekly or bi-weekly payment options. Amazon differs in that they pay their affiliate marketers monthly in a variety of ways, including direct deposit or checks. The downside to Amazon’s schedule is that they do not pay until 60 days after the product has been shipped, making ClickBank far more efficient for affiliates to receive payment.
Finally, one of the primary differences between Amazon and ClickBank is the customer conversion rates, in which Amazon takes the lead in. Since Amazon is so incredibly well-known, they tend to acquire significantly higher conversion rates than ClickBank products. ClickBank’s products also have higher refund rates since their products are digital. As opposed to a physical product, it is far easier to return and get a refund on a product that is digital.
While there are advantages and disadvantages to both platforms, the strategy for achieving successful affiliate marketing through Amazon and ClickBank tend to be quite similar. Here are a few simple steps on how to get the most out of your affiliate marketing with both affiliate programs:
